Family tree
It is with interest to note that in the 21st century, within the black community, people prefer to keep to their nuclear families. Gone are the days of a child belonging to the community, but rather he/she is my child not our child. The danger in this new adopted way of living is that we do not get to share our experiences as we go through life. Essential values that make us a community and a nation are likely to be lost and not be handed over from one generation to the next.
Our children do not know how they are related to each other. The only relation they understand and know is between themselves and their parents. Extended relations are weak or non-existant. With this background in mind we decided to develop a family tree of Bafokeng ba ha Tsele. We have traced our genealogy as far back as when our grand-father, Lesira, lived in Lesotho. This is where he was born as Lesira Mochebelele before he changed his name to Mofokeng. Our children need to know their origins and roots so as to pass the knowledge to the future generations.
The two formats of the family tree that are available on this site are the searchable database and the illustrative formats. In the searchable format a name or date of birth can be entered into a webpage form that in turns searches the database for a family member. Links below will take you to extracted sub-family trees.
